Watersports
While planning your Colorado summer vacations, stay at the Nordic Inn.
Sail, windsurf and waterski on Blue Mesa Reservoir, a 20-mile-long
lake with 96 miles of shoreline. Curecanti National Recreation Area
has three lakes, each offering a different boating experience. Don't
forget the boat tours on Morrow Point Lake. Their regular summer
schedule will take you to spectacular views of ancient rock spires
including the Curecanti Needle.
Hiking
Hikes of all kinds are in plentiful supply. You can make it as easy
as riding a chairlift up Mt. Crested Butte, taking in the view at
the top, and then walking down. In Crested Butte, you can lace up
your boots and just walk out of town to dozens of popular hikes.
There are also four-wheeling roads and high elevation passes that
give you amazing access to peaks that reach 14,000 feet. Have your
camera ready to capture images of mule deer, elk, birds of prey,
foxes and fields of precious wildflowers. At the Black Canyon of the
Gunnison National Park and the Curecanti National Recreation Area
you can hike along the rim or descend into the 2,000 foot deep
abyss.
